My firm interviewed a guy from UT last week. Apparently, he got a summer job as a 1L. In fact, he got three summer jobs as a 1L and split his summer three ways. At least one was a big firm in Austin. I guess the job market is picking up or something, but he had a worse undergrad GPA than I did and a worse law school GPA than I did (even with the new curve that artificially inflates it by 0.3). He had no permanent work experience. He wasn't especially charming or didn't seem to possess intangibles that would make him a must-grab. I'm confused about how he was able to so well offer-wise. That said, he seemed to be an appropriate candidate for a summer position as a 2L, especially once he gets some IP classes behind him.
