Gas

Nothing annoys me more right now than people complaining about gas prices. Especially when they are not at an all time high. Hell, they're not even the highest in the last year.

What really gets me is that oil companies make about 4-9 cents (this says 7.5) per gallon while the federal government makes 18.4 cents and the local government makes at least that. So by a conservative effort the government makes about 7 times as much for doing nothing and without risk of loss. Despicable.

This gets even more ridiculous when you consider that the government won't let new refineries be built, requires tons of formulations, and won't allow new exploration or offshore drilling.

Also don't forget about the basic economics of supply and demand.

Nothing I'm saying is novel, but I haven't heard any of this on the news in the last two weeks.

BTW, yesterday I paid $37 for 11 gallons and was happy to do it.
